Everyone glad to be back at work today?

KStew Cocoa puff
So Christmas, in brief:

James McAvoy films watched: 2; Mince pies eaten: 3; Festive injuries sustained in comedy fashion: 4; Boilers on blink: 1; Pairs of socks it is possible to wear at once: 3; New books acquired: 10; Tasteless animal statues to sell on eBay: 1; Family members annihilated in annual festive music quiz: 13; Rock stars flirted with: 1; Trifles eaten: 2.5; Times snowed on: 4; Gin-based cocktails consumed in effort to cope with it all: 8; Days lost to hating the sales and the swarm of tourists they bring: 2; Pine needles left on tree yesterday: 5; Christmas food items still in fridge: 18.

Massive, massive thank yous to everyone who sent me cards, and gargantuan thanks to those who sent me gifts/wrote something that made me smile/drew me sparkly vampires/went to town with Rob’s face and glitter glue. Special thank yous to [info]javidan for the beautiful drawing (I want to lick it), [info]scarlett71177 for the bracelet (which I am still wearing), [info]wildmagelet for the bling, [info]shimotsuki for the CD, and [info]drumher for the snacks (which I am living on, currently). You made my Christmas ♥.

And since I’m here and it’s snowing (which is procrastination carte blanche), [info]moonlitwoods tagged me for this:

Rules: Once you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 16 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 16 people to be tagged.

1. I can’t write in blue ink.
2. I hate stickers.
3. The worst hangover I ever had was the fault of whiskey and cherryade (and yes, that is every inch as bad a combo as it sounds).
4. Coloured walls or clothes makes me uncomfortable. I don’t even know why.
5. I became vegetarian to win a bet with my mother.
6. When I was 8, I got my foot stuck in a drain at the airport.
7. I have a superstition that the first record you hear in a new year will dictate what kind of year you will have.
8. Once, I met Hugh Laurie in a guitar shop. He bought a kazoo.
9. I’m a compulsive pen chewer.
10. My record for ignoring my phone is 2 months. I think with a bit of effort I can do better.
11. I can only draw pigs and reindeer.
12. My favourite Clash song is my favourite Clash song because it name-checks my favourite poet.
13. I hate weddings.
14. I’m vehemently opposed to fruit in real food.
15. If someone bores me at a party, I wait for the ‘so, what do you do?’ question, then make up something really random just to see the look on their face. Pole-dancer and poet are my favourites.
16. The only music I wholesale don’t like is ska. I think it’s the trumpets.

I tag: [info]9t9, [info]calyndra, [info]thalia_csiny, [info]duck_or_rabbit, [info]free_to_imagine, [info]bright_blonde, [info]starlight_brite, [info]loveweasleys04, [info]eumelkeks, [info]miss_blanche, [info]sspring92, [info]train_lindz, [info]nola2525, [info]rye_the_random, [info]shoebox_addict, and [info]enomis57.

And because everyone is doing it and I haven’t written anything fannish for ages:

First five comments with a fandom, pairing or character(s), and prompt will get a drabble. If you ask for something [or not], feel free to post this on your journal and offer five of either art or fic that you do, too.

So take your pick from HP, Twilight, The Office, or Merlin. And because it doesn’t seem very fair to just go with the first five, comment away and I’ll pick the five that appeal the most to me (hint: seasonal prompts will most likely curry favour because you know how I like me some angst in the snow :D).

Oh, and if anyone fancies some HP fic on their iPod, Mugglenet Fanfiction are now doing podcasts with a selection of stories. This edition includes Christmas With Lily :D.

Shall comment to the rest of your post after filling in my drabble request :)

Did you have a fun Christmas out in the wilds?

I want to see this Tasteless Animal Statue!

Only random pressies I got were:
A sort-of miniature rabbit hutch full of breakfasty things (but I can always use the hutch as a spice rack) and
A slow cooker. Apparently, the aunt and uncle who sent me the slow cooker also apparently sent one each to my Mum, my sister and all three of their own children. These are the aunt & uncle who got me a fuckload of chutney the other year. Crazy.

The tasteless statue is a glass penguin, and worryingly it's kind of growing on me, lol.

I also got a pair of proper Pat Butcher earrings, which demand to be photoed for posterity before I take them to the charity shop.

A slow cooker? I'm kind of amazed you can still buy those. Maybe they're trying to hint that they want some kind of stew when they come round....

We went out for half-price cocktails and had far too much to drink - I knew we were in trouble when we decided that the logical thing to do was to order 2 drinks each every round for no apparant reason. He had mojitos, I had cucumber cups. I have a fairly vivid memory of him saying 'wow your hair is shiny...' and then falling off his chair. Good night, lol.

Whiskey and cherryade is not recommended, unless you have no other mixers at all and the whiskey is too rough to drink on its own. Before that, we'd drunk ourselves out of Coke, lemonade and even orange squash, lol.

That is hilarious that you make up something when people ask what you do!!!! That's a riot. You have the best sense of humor! Jeff does something similar when people call having dialed the wrong number! The best part is hearing the stunned sound in the person's voice. *giggles*

I'm bad about my phone, too. Well, worst about checking my messages. I can go days without carrying my cell, too. Jeff gets so mad at me about the message thing. I know if it's important they'll call the home phone, and then I know Jeff will eventually check it, so there. LOL

Sounds like you had a very eventful holiday. I'm so glad you survived to tell about it! LOL

*hugs*

BTW~ I need to get your mailing address, because I was going to send you something. I was bad and didn't do cards, but I wanted to do something else, instead. *grins*

I love playing games with people for my own amusement, especially when I'm drunk. I just can't help myself, lol.

Did you watch Starter for Ten, then? One of my faves over Christmas, and Mr Gilpin was beside himself trying to answer all Bamber's questions while drooling over the dark-haired girl.

How's the Crazy Guy? Or shouldn't I ask...

I'll see if another Merlin one takes your fancy, though I think I'm in a win-win as I get one anyway. Um, Arthur, Merlin, Morgana (in whatever accent you want), and promises.

Rosie loves her laser torch (until it gets on her nerves, then she tends to go for your feet to let you know it is). Did Meg, Jack and your other furry friend (Agh! I can't remember his name, which doesn't bode well for my brain in '09) have a good time?

I'm off to have sirius Hugh Laurie envy...

Yes! I loved it. I read the book ages ago so I put off seeing the film in case it wasn't much good, and then there was nothing else on and my curiosty got the better of me. I also loved your man Rupert Perry Jones in the 39 Steps, even though I think they pretty much threw out the novel by the second scene, lol.

Crazy guy smashed cheesecake!Steve's window on Boxing Day, then threw a load of rubbish at his front door. He was here on NYE, put a note under the windscreen wiper of the car and sat outside for ages, just watching the house. We called the police, but they said they couldn't do anything and that we should get CCTV. I always say it doesn't feel like Christmas until you order surveilance equipment on the internet and get stalked by a crazy person, though, so....

More Merlin may well take my fancy :D.

I'm glad Rosie likes her laser! Meg singed her eyebrows on a candle for the third year running, and Jack ate most of the tree. They and Vince may or may not have got some spare turkey on Christmas Day, lol.

Oh, and Happy New Year! Hugh was lovely, btw.... ;)

I think everyone's procrastinating on the first day back today, lol. I still have drabble room left though, if you want something... :D.

My worst comedic injury was on Christmas Day - I was getting something out of the oven, the steam super-heated the metal of my necklace and burnt my neck (why did no-one ever warn me about this?!). I was really worried I'd have to go to A&E and end up on one of those How Stupid People Injure Themselves At Christmas TV shows, but I stuck some ice on it straight away so it only blistered a bit. I took it as a sign to have another mulled cider, lol.

Crazy guy has been in action - he smashed cheesecake!Steve's windows and threw a load of rubbish at his door, and he's left us notes and been lurking outside the house. We bought some CCTV in the sale....

Ooh, interesting.

I did send your card! I sent it the week before Christmas, so if it hasn't arrived, we should write sternly-worded notes to our respective postal services... and then email them because obviously postal is not the way to go.

Ugh, I hate stickers, too. Especially when the bits that don't come off get stuck under your nails and it takes forrrever to get them out. XD

YOU'VE MET HUGH LAURIE!!! I imagine he totally rocks.

Urgh. Sticker bits are the worst.

Hugh did totally rock. He talked to my friend about guitars for ages (I wandered off, bored, lol).

Hugh was very nice too :D.

I'm a confirmed decaf Earl Grey drinker. I used to get fruit teas but I switched my addiction. I keep thinking I should try something else, but the call of the Earl is too strong....

9. I’m a compulsive pen chewer.

I was for ages until I bit one so hard it broke and the ink exploded into my mouth. In public. It was horribly embarrassing and tasting. Now when I catch myself doing it, I stop immediately. I think that is the primary reason I have changed to pencils. I can eat them.

Oh, see, I get the right kind of pens for biting - Pilot V5s. They're real ink so it's all at the bottom, negating the liklihood of a pen!spolosion. I also have to put the lid on the end of the pen, offering another layer of protection.

Have I given this too much thought? LOL

Oh, yeah - I get to meet quite a lot of musicians and stuff through work so I know a lot of people in bands. Occasionally one of them shows up on the front cover of a magazine, and occasionally I get drunk and flirt with them, lol.

16 Things! Thrilled to be tagged. More thrilled to be able to reply as my laptop died over the holidays. Thankfully my school district hasn't blocked lj in the same manner as facebook and myspace. Why didn't I know this before now, though? I could have been doing this ages ago.

1. I've collected American Girl Dolls since I was small. I have some 60 of them now. Yes, I play with them, no, not in a "house" or worse, "scary" way. Mostly I just change the clothes.
2. I was shocked when my mother wanted me to put an actual bed in my second bedroom. I had always envisioned it as the Doll and Craft room. I won. No bed.
3. Coconut makes me naseaous.
4. I have BBC envy. SCD, DW, Torchwood, and aparently this Merlin show is good? It's especially worse since they pulled all the good Strictly videos from this series off youtube. Why can't I watch it too? It isn't as if I can *buy* it here.
5. I like raw cauliflower and cooked broccoli, but not the other way around.
6. I'm supposed to be "planning" for my classes while I am instead typing this.
7. Seven is my favorite number. Today is the 7th.
8. If I could be a professional Basketball Band Piccolo player I would. Alas they don't have pro bands, only college.
9. Sometimes I think college was the best time of my life, and wonder why we have another 60 or more years to live afterward. Or else, why isn't the rest as fun as the college years were?
10. I got my first ipod for my birthday. No computer to load it with, but my brother slapped some music on there for me.
11. I own an "Alice" Twilight replica necklace. Yes, me=dork.
12. I have played flute/piccolo in an orchestra with 3 Dog Nite, Kansas, Don McClean (who is a jerk), John McCutcheon, and Tom Chapin. We also presented the first ever concert performance of the music from To Kill a Mockingbird, narrated by the lady who played Scout in the movie.
13. I am a chronic project-starter. Unfortunately, my attention span doesn't always last long enough to *finish* the projects...
14. When I was about 14 I put letters together until I had something that sounded pretty and Calyndra has been my user name all over the internet ever since.
15. My real name is Abby, but not Abigail. Abigail rhymes quite nicely with my last name. It used to make me horribly angry to be teased by being called Abigail Huckvale, but now certain people may call me Abigail and get away with it. When my brother was going to be born we considered naming him Charles Dale, so together we'd be Abigail and Chuck Dale Huckvale. We didn't. Too bad.
16. I was 16 eleven years ago today.

I don't know 16 people who haven't done this already, so I fail at tagging.

Merlin is awesome. Heartily recommended. I got the actual DVDs and I never do that.

And also because I'm not sure whether I'll have time to post something later:

Photobucket

I tried to make you something SCD-esque, but I couldn't find any pictures that weren't really odd. So you have to put up with Rob. Pretend he's asking you to dance :D.

I hope you're having a lovely day and are skiving off work an appropriate amount ♥.
